Vtg Laurel Metal SPELTER Table Lamp Chess board 1960's Mid century Modern 30 T

  
Midcentury table lamp with a Checker Chess column I have two of these lamps I have pictured with numbers 1 & 2. Made of SPELTER metalsilver tone with verdigris and black applied patina. This is factory applied, unlike most of the lamps advertised as made of brass, these are made of Spelter Metal. Lamp #2 has blacker specking and green verdigris.

Black base and the top of these lamps has the design of the kings crown chess piece in black. Lamp # 1 has a Brass wreath finial or feathered wings. Lamp #2 has a brass ball finial.

Lamp # 1 is approx. 30 ¾ tall x 21 to the socket, the base is 5 ¼ square. Because of the finial Lamp # 2 is 30 T - the rest is the same as lamp # 1. Original Brown cord- it has a few paint splatters on it- it does not affect its used Black felt like on the bottom to protect furniture.

The price is for one lamp, either # 1 or # 2 Good Vintage condition no chips or cracks- minor scuffs and marks appropriate for its age and use. Please zoom and view all pictures as they are part of the description.

Early twentieth-century Art Nouveau and Art Deco figures and lamps were often made of spelter. The metal has been used since about the 1860s to make statues, and lamps that resemble bronze.

In the second decade of the 20. Century increases in the production of spelter arose from copper production being utilized for military munitions during WWI.

There was a lack of copper for bronze-making thus pushing forward spelter as a notable decorative material of choice. There are beautiful examples of craftsmanship from this era.
